San Diego Film Festival Review
Film Culture and New Media Technology

Last month, the San Diego Film Festival held its seventh annual event in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown. From September 25-28, films from all over the world—and local—were shown at the Pacific Gaslamp Theatre downtown. There were features, dramas, shorts, documentaries, action shorts films, films about the environment and ecology, films about at-risk youth in Australia to a mystical take on the mysterious UFO lights that hovered over Phoenix, Arizona in March, 1997.
Book Review: The Sociology of Blogging, by Jill Walker Rettberg

This isn’t yet another one of those “how to blog and make money” or “blogging for dummies” books that have flooded the bookstore shelves the past few years. This is the first book that takes a serious sociological view of how blogging has changed the nature of Internet-based communications, life writing, consumer marketing, and how the blog, in less than a decade, has integrated into our culture on many levels: politically, socially, economically, and personally.
Three Hot Websites

We’re always looking for the hottest in new websites. Here are three that we think you’ll find fascinating and potentially useful:
Hip, Sexy Trading
Wallstrip.com. This “is where pop culture meets stock culture.” Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, host Julie, usually wearing something revealing, gets on the web and podcasts and examines a company whose stock is trading at or near an all-time high. She tries to find “the real world trend” that explains why the stock is doing so well. Good for the young new day trader with an account and an itch to invest.
The Modlins vs The Donkeys :
Decision Nov. 7th, 2008

The picture pretty much says it all : next Friday, after all this actual Election madness is over, and the democratic process does what it does, come celebrate, or pout, or, well, either way, rock and roll, live, at The Whistlestop bar in Southpark. The Modlins vs The Donkeys. Rock on for videos, and see you then!
Celebrating Ninthlink Team: Mini-Interview with Alex Smith

We thought it would be fun to take a quick peek into the mind of one of our programmers, Alex Smith, and see what he is up to in this mini-interview . What we do know is that he that plays bass in local band The Modlins who won Best Pop Album of the year from the 2008 San Diego Music Awards. For the band, see this recent write up about The Modlins in the SD Reader.
AIGA’s “Spirits” Keeping Halloween Around For 2 More Weeks?

Was that too much of a stretch? Either way, AIGA’s Spirits happy hour series continues at the W in downtown San Diego on Thursday November 13th. Spirits will be held on the rooftop BEACH, which is an exterior space with a wonderful view of the city. The event is FREE for all members, with a $10 cover otherwise, but definitely worth it, to rub elbows with other AIGA members. Oh, and warm clothes are also recommended, even though it has been 85 degrees this past week…
Blanket/Towel Drive Updates
We are down to the wire! We have two days left with the drive but we still need 12 more items to meet our goal! We also have a fundraising page set up to raise money for the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter. Our goal is $50 which really doesn’t sound like much, and its not much on our part. Just think about it, if 10 of us donated just $5 each, we can feed a pet for 3 months, cover the cost of spaying/neutering a cat, or buy many toys and items to help keep the animals happy and healthy until they find a new home.
Walk for Diabetes
On Sunday October 26th, 7 members from our Ninthlink Team joined 3500 others in the race to cure Juvenile Diabetes held by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This disease, also known as Type 1 Diabetes, affects as many as 3 million Americans and is a life long disease. We have not found a prevention or cure for Juveile Diabetes, but the JDRF is doing all that it can to find a cure and make the lives of those living with this disease easier. In order to do this, they need our help! Thanks to all who came and we hope to see all of you next time.
Blog Homes and Visual Formatting
Time to Type
In today’s post, continuing the fine points of blogging, I would like to discuss picking a hosting home for your blog, as well as choosing a visual format.
If your company does not have its own blogging software included in the website program, there are dozens and dozens of blogging sites that you can create a blog and link it to your company site.
