The White House Chats Digitally

The White House has always used communication platforms to interact with the populace, from FDR’s “Fireside Chats” over the radio to Presidential addresses carried on every network and cable provider simultaneously. So it’s no surprise that the current administration is making full use of Internet interactivity, the same way Obama utilized Twitter when campaigning.

The White House is currently broadbanding a series of online video chats on Whitehouse.gov this week, with the idea of taking stock of the Obama Administration’s first year in office. The content, which began Monday, January 11, with Energy and Climate czar Carol Browner chatting about the Obama’s clean energy push, is interactive through the White House’s Facebook page.

Tech space will be covered on Thursday with an address from the nation’s first Federal Chief Technology Officer, Aneesh Chopra, joined by Norm Eisen, special counsel to the President for ethics and government reform.

FLO and Morphie Team Up!

The latest in local digital happenings has Qualcomm’s unqiue  FLO TV service  teaming up with software and app designer  mophie to bring a live TV service to the iPhone and iPod touch platforms.

Utilizing FLO TV’s recently acquired spectrum, the application and antennae skin will receive TV signals independent of the carrier’s networks, eliminating the prce of the network fee now passed on to consumers.

FLO also announced a hefty line up of sports programming for 2010- –  90 NBA games, 76 MLB games,  200 NCAA football games, including 25 Bowl games and 350 NCAA basketball games.

We like the idea of catching games in the palm of your hand, but can that beat a cool sports bar or a weekend gathering of friends?

Box Me Up a Boxee, Yo

D-Link has officially unveiled the Boxee Box and should be on the market in the first half of this year with an expected retail price of around $200 (of course, by the end of the year, one could probably snag a BB for $75).  It is one of the most hotly anticipated new media gadgets to come around in a while.  The company’s website describes the product as so:

Ever wish you could get all the great free entertainment from the Internet onto your TV? Or playback your personal collection of movies, TV shows, music, and photos in your living room without having to sacrifice your laptop? Ever wish you could enjoy and share that movie, TV show, or YouTube clip with your friends on Facebook and Twitter with the push of a button on your remote, from the couch? All of this power and more is coming in a killer new box from D-Link & Boxee.

So what does it really do? you ask.

Careercast ranks 200 jobs from Best to Worst for 2010 : Web Developer #15

How does Jobs Rated determine which professions rank better than others? Data on each job is broken down into five key categories: Physical Demands, Work Environment, Income, Stress and Hiring Outlook. Jobs receive a score in each individual category, and when these are added together, the career with the best overall score is ranked 1st, while the one with the worst overall score is ranked 200th.

So “Web Developer” got #15. I didn’t see “Web Designer” or “Project Manager” on the list, but “Artist (Fine Art) is #104, so I think we win?

Hello WordPress 2.9.1, Bye Bye Headspace2, Hello All in One SEO Pack

In the process of posting that last post, I upgraded to WordPress 2.9.1. 2.9.1 is said to fix a few minor issues like fixing a Core editor bug in Safari, and improving some of the nice image editing functionality that came with 2.9 itself. But what I didn’t count on was it interacting with the SEO plugin Headspace2 that we had installed, to totally break javascript in the WordPress backend… READ MORE

2010 Buzzword: “Socialnomics”

Student with Answer or Question

The trendy buzzword we’ll be hearing tossed around in the coming year is socialnomics, derived from Erik Qualman’s book of the same name.

From Facebook ad compaigns (like Burger Kings) to the ROI of YouTube videos, revenue, profit, and ROI from social media platform will dominate the digital concerns on cyberspace for 2010.

Many brands will strive or die based on their social media presence and marketing strategies.

The team at Ninthlink knows this well, and has been anticipating this macro shift in the paradigm of how we live and do business for a while.  This is why we always stress the importance of a strong social media presence online.
