Tweeting Your Locale

Fast on the social location trend, Twitter now has its geolocation-powered Twitter Places feature (“more context for your Tweets”)  from its main site and @ mobile.twitter.com. The widget allows users to share their location with members by geo-tagging their tweets.

Twitter Places will also integrate with Foursquare and Gowalla to reveal lists of recent tweets from multiple locations. There’s an API functionality that enables developers to integrate Twitter Places into their applications.

Where are you right now?

The Sharing Trend

Like the “Like Button,” just about all online content now has “Share” widgets (we call it “Spread the Joy”).  Sharing is the current trend online today – news articles, blogs, photos, product reviews, movies, TV shows, rants, raves and rumors, you can share what you find interesting to Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Reddit, et al.

It’s also called social bookmarking.

This is called the dissemination of information. What you share tells people (and even advertisers) what you like.  Sharing a YouTube music video says what songs are atuned to your emotions.

Care to share?

Your Life on 10/10/10!

Here’s something pretty darn nifty and creative…

Global participatory media project Creative Visions Foundation founded by three USC alumni invites users from around the world to film their lives during a 24-hour period on 10/10/10, using any device they have handy. Filmmakers will be able to share their videos and perspectives on social issues on onedayonearth.org.

Director/creator Kyle Ruddick and producers Brandon Litman and Michael Klima will create an archive of the submissions in October, searchable by topic, popularity and location. Anyone who participates can create a profile on the site and log on later to access any of the content. More than 1,700 participants and educators representing over 56,000 students have already signed up for the project, including professional filmmakers and internationally recognized humanitarian organizations.

Trending: Loyalty Programs, Location, and Caution

The concept of the loyalty program is experiencing a rebirth by way of social media sites Facebook, Twitter, and now Foursquare.

If you haven’t heard, the buzz word these days is Foursquare. A small, New York tech start-up that is on its way to becoming the next biggest thing in social media. Foursquare is a location-based service that allows users to check in at places they frequent in their daily lives. By encouraging users to do this simple task, Foursquare is an attractively  huge draw to local retailers, and seems to bring back the long-outdated promotion tool known as the loyalty program.
