Puma & Bicycle Culture

Added by: craig on August 28, 2008

In 1998 I took a road trip across the States. The trip was solely to ride BMX and seek out as much terrain and skateparks between LA and NY as possible in a month’s time. I was fortunate enough to crash in Manhattan with a friend of a group that calls themselves Visual Mafia. 10 years later, Matt McGuinness along with a herd of inspired individuals are keeping things true to two wheels and spreading a lot of good at the same time. They’ve teamed up with Puma to create a mini-site experience revolving around the culture of cycling in the depths of NYC. Take a look at I-Cycle…

Instant News, Instant Knowledge Is Changing Our World

Added by: jeromy on August 27, 2008

We now live in a digital world where our culture is based on information that is available within seconds of its creation through media outlets, infotainment, and instantaneous access. It’s an exciting time to be here, without a doubt.

The Past vs. the Present
The way information is disseminated to the public 100-200 years ago is incredibly different and has a quicker effect on politics, culture, and business. When Teddy Roosevelt ran against President William Taft 100 years ago, he would say all kinds of horrible things about Taft at rallies and speeches…not that he got away with it, he was criticized and censured as candidates are today, but it took so long for the information to spread through the States that by the time it did,  it didn’t matter — by the time the newspapers were published and got around, it was weeks if not months.  Now, anything a candidate says is recorded and up on YouTube two minutes later, and in less than an hour, the whole world knows of it.

All The Cool Kids Are Doing It

Added by: alex on August 26, 2008

The Ninthlink delegation to SFOutsideLands has returned, and what a weekend it was. Lets see how many puns I can get… Friday, we did in fact pack like sardines in a crushed tin box (excuse my spelling) for Radiohead. Just us and 75,000 of our closest friends. Saturday, ate lunch at the 21st Amendment brewery, and then we were freefallin with Petty. And by Freefallin, I mean lying down in the back of the crowd. Sunday day time, enjoyed a bit of actual sunshine, then off to Pier 39 for tourist lunch, and to the festival to get as much as we could of the last day, including a most excellent set by Chicago’s The Cool Kids.

The Modlins : Tonight and Next Week

Added by: alex on August 26, 2008

For those who don’t know, I am Alex Smith, Web Developer here at Ninthlink, but outside of saving the world, one web page at a time, I also play bass guitar for San Diego’s own The Modlins. And in keeping with the themes of Discovering New Ideas and Promoting Great Concepts, I feel obliged to give another update on The Modlins. The last update was two weeks ago, and since then, we’ve been hard at work, mostly making sure that I have as little “free time” as possible, after work. On that note, if you are looking for a place to dine tonight, Tuesday the 26th, look no further!

Tonight, the Modlins are set to play the Cafe La Maze steakhouse in National City, which is really just a few short minutes south of Downtown San Diego. And for all the vegetarians who cringe at the “steakhouse” (hi Craig), they have a delicious Pasta Prima Vera dish, plus possibly the best garlic mashed potatoes I’ve had, AND a nice variety of drinks, if you find your whistle in need of wetting. You can read more about the Modlins and Cafe La Maze here, and check out their official website here.

But that is not all!

Caught in the Web : Getting the Attention of the Spider Bots

Added by: amanda on August 15, 2008

When it comes to the fine art of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), the team at Ninthlink is always on top of new trends and changes in the digital realm and how people use search engines in today’s culture. The methods people use to find the things they are interested in knowing about, and interested in buying, is the key to meta tagging and making SEO work best for businesses to enhance an online presence.

Here Come the Bots
All search engines use robots—also called spiders and “bots”—which are programs that scour and travel through cyberspace seeking information in a variety of ways, manly based on website content and words that have been meta-tagged.  The experts will say that key to grabbing the bots’ best attention is specific detail in content wording. An example would be Nissan—a person does not simply type in “Nissan” but will type in a certain make and model, color, as well as features of the car they want information about, or are interested in purchasing.  Each of these items must be optimized for beneficial return hits from search engines, so this potential customer knows exactly where to find (and buy) the item they are interested in.
