Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona

ce581360f7_ddonahue01262009The 47th Annual Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona was run over the past weekend. The Brumos Porsche Team came through with two podium finishes, racing their way to both first and third places. The race is a 24 hour endurance race (similar to the classic 24 Hours of Lemans race in France each year). Cars race from daytime, through the night, and into the next day. Three or four drivers take their turns behind the wheel. The race accumulates just over 2,600 miles, and tests the cars, the teams, and the drivers to the limit. This years’ margin of victory was only 167 seconds.

Endurance racing, at this level, is a perfect metaphor for online marketing. Because just like online marketing, endurance racing takes “perfection” at every step. Every level. Every execution. Every turn. Every opportunity. Yes… All it takes is a great product, a smart plan, a talented team, unbelievably well timed execution, superb follow through, perfectly prepared contingency plans, a brilliant exit strategy, and the ability to deal with both good and bad luck along the way.
